I think it should work, and the guy at the LFS also backed up my thoughts

42G Hex, Bichir, Green Severum and African Butterfly Fish.

PS - The fish are already in there and so far getting along. Size wise I think they should be ok save for maybe the severum way later down the line

how big is your bichir and what species? Ornate ones are more aggressive and grow bigger. The one i saw at the large lfs in my area was over two feet long, and about 1 inch across. but i think those are rare.

Senagalas (Sp?) I just said bichir because I didnt feel like butchering the spelling

those are the smallest of the bichers so you should be ok
