Hi all, just a curious question here about my motoros, evry now and then they do as in the pic below, they have always done this sincei have had them, just wondering if they are looking for food/scenting the water etc or ?

They do it for a few minutes from what i have seen and then thats it, they just root threw the sand.

Normally sniffing for food :)

Sometimes it means you have a water problem, PH swings...etc. If they seem to leave it up for a period of time or seem to be gasping could also mean oxygen.

I will check on the sniffing bit by seeing when they do it, i feed them the same time every day, give or take 30 mins, they have always done this in the 3 months i have had them and the water perams have always been the same, oxygen, not sure on that,i remopved an air stone weeks back but they did this before them aswell.
When they do it they dont gasp atall, just stay like this for a minute maybe.

But wat if the ray swims into middle of water and kind of jerked sideways a few times then go back to bottom again?

Also, I have seen my motoro swam back-stroke with loud sounds, the disc hitting the water. Wat does it mean? When I saw it, I was very amazed.

Mine does that bit just to clean the sand off, as in mid water and jerks there body, not sure on the back stroke.

Totally agree, my motoro does it more than the pearl and it seems to be a sniff and looking for food....she also does the shake to get rid of sand...again the pearl doesn't seem to.

Just been watching them as not long gave them there feed, the female Motoro actualy near stood up verticaly on her feet (sorry forgot the name of them) sniffing LOL, looked weird.
