Hey all,

I just got some Nimbochromis Fuscos while I wait for my Cichlas. Anyway I'm not sure about the sex of one of the four fish I got; so I did a search on the Google machine and read that it's hard to tell until the juice wears off? What does that mean? I've had them for a week, and I'm just curious. Perhaps a slowly developing male. But anyway, would like to know the meaning of the previously said term.

Cheers,
Richard

first I've heard of it, so here's a guess...
steroids are often referred to as juice, so perhaps they've been treated with steroids (growth hormones) to speed up growth and increase their colors. this also has the unfortunate side effect of messing with their sexual characteristic so you need to wait until the 'roids are gone and their effects worn off before they can be reliably sexed.

Sound like they are referring to the hormones that are often used by fh breeders/keepers in other countries.

This could be way off since I am not familiar with the fish in question..... BUT when I worked for a large importer in L.A. We commonly used a mild sedative which We referred to as juice when shipping skittish fish( tiger barbs,Clown Loaches Etc) or when a fish was dangerously stressed..It calmed the fish but a side effect was a noticeable temporary color fade ...... Maybe??*
