What eats green algae?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Purchase a scrubbie...............PLecostomas only add to the ammonia waste, so try to stay away from purchasing one only to "get rid of algae...."Do you leave the lights on??????????Is the window shining on the tank............

Distochodus do, so do flag tails, garra species and other sucking loaches do.

best algae control I ever had was from my flag tail.

I have the lights on for probably about 5 hrs a day. There is a window next to the tank bit no direct sunlight. Thanks

Are you asking green, or bluegreen? (bluegreen is cyanobacteria, nothing eats it)(UV does not kill it, UV only kills free floating algal cells).
It can be caused by indirect sunlight in combination with a too few water changes, leaving filter too long without cleaning, and detritus buildup, it is that kind that can cover the substrate in sheets, not just the glass.
I always get it on tanks when I slack off water changes that get little light.
