I have a colony of Phenochilius Mdokas. The two smallest ones dont seem to like to eat any flakes or pellets but only frozen brine shrimp! They spit the flakes out and let the other 4 fish eat them all. But the second i put frozen brine shrimp in the tank they go crazy and eat as much as possible. Is there something else I can feed these fish that is more filling? These are pretty big fish( the small ones are 4 inches) and they need alot to eat, not just little brine shrimp. Any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks!

I personally don't use it. I use lots of krill but my friends that do use it buy raw, shelled shrimp. Peel and chop into suitable sized chunks

yeah, def shrimp, krill, maybe even some silversides...also when the season is right, earthworms are killer fish food.

i also suggest that if you have some breeder size, i'd start feeding some of these things only every now and then, with a pellet/flake staple, then do a water change and a constant feeding of these fresher foods, and you may just get some breeding going on.

You could also try some beef heart cut into suitable pieces alot of fish like it too.

I use shrimp for all my fish... Frozen seafood section, large bag of unshelled shrimp.. I only use what I need at the time.. thaw.. chop into little bitty peices.. and your good to go.. plus you still have a good supply left...

Frozen blood worms, live earth worms.
Try taking the freezdried krill and pour boiling water over it. Add some chopped seaweed from the Asian section at the grocery store. Let it cool before serving, my Africans stuff themselves with it.
Small crickets from the petstore.
Meal worms, medium size.
Wax worms, and, I know its gross, but even maggots. I would ckeck on a local supplier for the maggots.
Just my 2¢

Be careful when feeding africans too much protein as they are prone to bloat.

also you can try to make your own mix: bring some shrimps, oceanic fish meat (not too fat, or it'll waste water), squid meat, chicken, add vegetables (colored ones, like carrot, pepper), some prepared porridge (w/o salt, not more that 15% of overall mix weight), prepare it in a blender and mix with gelatine and some liquid vitamines from ph.store(here proper one named "Vetaron"). wait for two hrs, put it into plastic bags, flattern well until 1/2" and place near your frozen pizza, but don't confuse with =) feed mbunas twice a week, utakas - three to four times p/week
