What else can you use to clean algae from a tank other than an algae stick?

I don't think it does that good of a job, can i use something else? sponge maybe?

Picked this up in the car wash section of WalMart. It has a long handle with very soft bristles, and has a rubber bumper around it. It works very well in our tank, and there is no way it can scratch the acrylic walls of our tank. It cleans walls and tank seams very fast with one pass.
 
If its for your tank walls, a credit card (video card etc) does well.
 
try a magfloat yet i think they work great as long as you do it regularly and not let a big build up of algea start
 
The mag-floats work well, although I've noticed it takes several passes to get the residue off.
