lets start off by saying it's a 40 gal tank with 2 millennium 3000 filters. right now i have in the tank

2 needlenose fish (one 5in and one 7 in)

looking to add something else to the tank but not sure. i understand this tank is too small for the needlenose in long term. but right now it works. when they get bigger they get a bigger tank. but looking for something else for the tank

the 2 needle fish may get a little long on you at 12" or so in that standard 40. then to choose tank mates it may be nice to stick with asian fish such as spotted ctepoma i think is how you spell it. looks like a leaf fish. tiger barbs, small breed of loaches. things to choose from for a start.

Clown loaches, zig zag eels, tiger barbs, BGK, etc..

A BGK will outgrow that 40 after a while. I have mine in a 40g breeder, and that is not even going to be enough, I'm afraid. Some BGKs won't grow too big, but they are known for reaching 13" regularly.

Most resources say ''up to 22 inches''. Yeah, well I say humans can grow ''up to 8 feet''. It just doesn't happen a lot.

any other ideas? leaning towords the spotted ctepoma but not sure if it's right for my size tank. also looking for a tank to put a birch in. dam i love those guys. would they work here?
