After doing a quick search, I realised Crenicichla sp. "Pacaya" and Crenicichla saxatilis look amazingly alike.

I bought this proven pair as Cr. saxatilis, but looking at pics of the Pacaya fish I'm no longer so sure. What do you think?

"Pacaya" is a collection location of a fish in the saxatalis groups, there's a lot of variation within saxatalis, they have a very wide distribution, call them what you bought them as. Don't try and second guess what they "might" be. Ken

Thx. Ken ! We've had this Pike before - - - Cr. pacaya (Saxatalis group) - got from Jim @ Mainly Cichlids. He & his brother won 2nd & 3rd in class @ ACA Denver '04 (Jim's entries).

This is a brightly spangled showy Pike! Nice pics HerCrenVie... good luck with your pair ~ the female is a knockout!!!

You'll drive your self crazy thinking of what species of Saxatillis you could have unless its an eazy saxatillis to ID just call it what it was imported as

This is a female C. sp. Pacaya that I got from ACA two years ago. . . .

The males were only lightly spangled, none of mine had the red that yours show!

Very nice BTW.
