I may start breeding feeders for my oscars and the bichir I will be geting(most likely a senegal). What would be a good feeder for them. I was thinking ghost shrimp since I know where to get them and I think they should be easy enough to raise and they breed fairly fast. Anyone know of any thing that may be healthier for them better ideas and then tips on how to raise said feeders I was also thinking of brine shrimp but I could never keep them alive as a kid.

Your help is,appreciated

I actually inquired about this same idea on another forum. Ghost shrimp and Guppies are easy to breed and breed fast, also mollies. But, I think you have to have a large volume of them to keep up with your fish consumption.

I found out Convict Cichlids might be the best to breed. They breed really easy, they breed really frequent, and they usually produce more fry than the other fish. They also are good parents and wont normally eat their fry or eggs. So that is another plus. I am thinking about it but I know I would have to get atleast a 20 gallon for a breeding pair. Dont really got room for another tank.

Some gut told me his convict pair are pumping out 500-1000 fry a month. I dont know if this is true though.

Feed your feeders foods rich in nutrients. Livebearers are one of those fish that is very easy to breed. Quarantine before feeding them to your fish. I wouldn't however encourage the use of feeders as the chances of your fish getting internal parasites is very high. Use earthworms, tubifex worms, daphnia, brine shrimps, occasional treats of hotdogs and beefhearts, and smelts. You can get some of these in frozen form.

Thats why I wanted to breed my onw feeders to eliminate the chance of them getting internal parasites, also I have 2 unused 20 gals to house the feeders in if that helps.
