I am new to the uniquarium scene and was wondering what media to use? My 30g half hexagon is 36x15x15 and has a internal
Filter similiar to the picture. Is bio ball the way to go?

It's up to you really. I've got a 200 gallon with the built in filter. Personally, I hate it. But to answer your question, you can use any bio media you want. I'm running matrix and bio balls in mine. You could use lava rocks, pot scrubbies, hell I've used nylon loofahs for media before. If you use some sort of rock, I recommend putting it in mesh bags so it's easier to remove if you ever have to.

Do one half pot scrubbies, other side lava rock

bio balls never did the job in my 75 gallon uniquarium. I switched to Matrix, Eheim Biomax and some thick foam from Germany (forgot the name), ever since then my water got cleared up dramtically.

Poret foam maybe?
