so im setting up a 55 this week and i need to know which canister is cheaper but better keeping my aquarium crisp and clean

I believe that you should not depend on only one filter for your tank; you should have a second as a back up. So if it were me, and I had money to spend, I would use an Eheim 2217 canister and an Aquaclear 110 HOB combo. That is the I got $$$ to spend combo. Otherwise Rena's XP series of canisters have a pretty good reputation.

A lot will depend on your fish stock, so what are you going to raise?

a jardini for until its about 10 inches or until i get my 150 and im on a budget cause its coming to 4 of july LOL

two aqau clear 110s or aqua clear 500s run dubble sponges in both.

I got a eheim 2217 and love it. I would say if your going with hob go with aquaclears. They seem to be the best hob out there, I've herd some pretty good things about the sunsun's. My 2217 is on a 30 right now and man is there a nice current, though I still want to toss on a hob since it's always better to run two.

I've been using a Penn Plax Cascade filter for about a month now, and it seems to work good. The reason I got this one is because it was pretty inexpensive, but I'm sure there are way better filters out there. :)
