i am going to set up a 48x15x15 tank for 4 discus aand then hopefully get a pair and breed them atm i have a fluval 3 plus filter i know i need more filteration what external filter would you reccomend

Fluval 405, eheim 2217, or rena xp3.

i use fluval 404 on all my tanks got um new in the box of ebay with free shipping for 85 bucks they work great

i thought i would only need like a rena xp1 fluval 105,205
because the fluval 3+ will give mechanical it would only neede to be for biological

thats all you probably do need for bio but why not get a killer filter for a killer deal and be overkill and use it on a anoth tank later and with a fluval you can turn down the water flow

well the reson is the price i'm in the uk i can get a fluval 205 for £80 but a 405 cost £100+

My Tip...always go overkill.. especially if you keeping sensitive fish....
I have two FX5's on a 5ft tank lolol... benefits are less waterchanges and a spotless tank constantly

I have had one problem with my FX5. My 7 Kuhli Loaches have shrunk to 3 because they think the intake to the FX5 would be a cool place to hide. I have found 2 alive but the rest ere filtered to death. Other wise it is a Great filter.

75 Gallon Tank. FX5 with Bio Max in bottom container covered with blue fine filter, Purigen and Charcoal in mesh bags covered with mini bio balls in mesh bag in second, prefilter media covered with blue fine filter in top container. 7 Cardinal Tetras, 3 loaches, too many guppies (my daughter took down her 55 and asked me to give them a home), 2 boatine loaches. Tank up for three months - everyones healthy except for my suicide kuhlis...
