What filters are these?

I was watching some videos on youtube and came across one that showed a filter that I've never seen before and I'm rather curious about it. The closest thing I could compare it to would be a sponge filter used for shrimp tanks or fry tanks but I'm not sure it is a sponge filter. Here is a link to the video

That's just a cheapo $2 corner or square filter with sponge and some gravel as media

Yup a box filter that you can fill with whatever you want. Been around for decades.
