Stop encouraging this.
Man, grow up!
The reality is, a half gallon is a better fate than what a lot of these bettas in chain stores will have. A lot of these bettas will die in their cups at the store, and a lot will end up in glass bowls about the same size as the plastic cup they were sold in. Sure you can try to educate people but the reality is to the majority of people out there, fish are just mindless, disposable pets.
And if you want to go the route of "holier than thou", you should know that there are people who feel that keeping any creatures in cages is heinous.....................even if a single neon tetra was housed in a 500gal tank.

you ever see a fancy tail bette swim? he puffed out getting to the food in a 10g. LoL they not big swimmers, they just like to hang out and do nothing. and who can blame them, you try swimming with sheets stabled to your back, them fins useless.

No one is encouraging it... It's a "can be done" vs "should be done" scenario and I think most people are making that clear.
Bingo!

Have you ever seen a betta in a ten gallon? Because it will use every square inch of that tank. Just because it takes effort for it get across the tank doesn't mean it's not a big swimmer.
I'm not taking a holier than thou route. I do have fish too. But 1/2 tank shouldn't be used to keep anything other than a plant. A 10 gallon is 12$ in my area.
Doing 100% changes every other day sounds pretty stressful if you ask me. Not only will larger tank provide more swimming room but it will be ten times easier to maintain.

I had a fancy tail betta in a 10g at work, he was conditioned to come to the right corner to feed when I tapped the glass there. it was painful to watch him struggle to get there. I decided this tank is to big for this fish, great fish for a 1g nano tank.

"This tank is too big for this fish" is a statement that should never be said on this site...

Or anywhere.

I'm just stop posting in this thread now.

We should probably all stop posted as the OP hasn't been seen since he made the post. By this time we've answered his question.

we are talking about a fish that should not even be in existence, they do not occur in the wild for good reason, they can not swim!! swim well anyways.
you know me ehh, I hate over stocking, I hate large fish in small tanks, when it comes fancy tail betta have to except what the fish was bread for. its not natural, its not the norm. keep in a cup? no! run a nano tank, with a little filter and small decor, change the water every other day fish live happy good life.

So what you're saying is that its looking for more space? Therefore, a 10gal is actually still too small.

In my younger, and less educated days, I kept multiple bettas in small glass containers and did 100% w/c. About 5 minutes after the w/c they would be be begging for food. That doesn't really seem stressed to me..........unless you're some sort of "betta whisperer"
