So the 125 and the 180g have the same footprint (72x24). The only difference is in the height 17" vs 25" and about 150$. Seems like all the real monster fish (ie RTC & TSN cats, pacu, gars's etc) will eventually outgrow even a 240g.

Soo... that extra 150$ is a good start on a sump etc. Are there any semi-monster fish that need that extra 8" of water height? I'm looking mainly at larger bichirs, some type of largish cat (what's like a TSN or RTC that would live fine in a 72x24 tank?), would like an Aro or some other mid to top water fish as well to round out the tank.

Thanks!!

Isnt the 125g 72x18?

Thats right. 72x18.

So the problem inherent with the 125 is that you couldnt get a fish that grows much more than 18" long or they'll have a harder time turning around.

The foot print on the 180 is larger.

glasscages 125 wide is 72x24x17

So assuming I'm not an idiot and can read dimensions (ie: 125g wide at glasscages), any actual advice on fish selections?

Thanks!

Well, we cant just assume you're not an idiot. I assume everyone is an idiot until they prove otherwise.

Get some Polypterus- Ornate or Endi would be good
Clown knife
Arowana
Jaguar

(not all together of course) - again, must say this in case you're an idiot

SO pretty much all the normally kept fish in a 180g would be just fine in a 125g wide, and 8" extra height is not that crucial for birchirs, clown knife and aros? I didnt mean to sound snooty above, but the thread turned quickly into arguing tank dimensions.

I'm thinking 2 bichirs, pleco, and maybe a clown knife or pike

Thanks all!!

I would go with an ornate pim or maybe a marble sailfin cat. Or if you could find one, I'd go with the Aguarunichthys torosus. These guys are sweet looking if you ask me...
