What fish food do you feed your africans?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i use the tetra brand for my cichlids.. tetra-color & tetra cichlid sticks..
my tangs go crazy around the tetra cichlid sticks but its kind of messy..

in this forum i red a recepy in the DIY section on diy frozen food...and i make my own with:
- salmon
- white fish meat
- shrimp
- spinach
- carrots
- bannana
- garlic
- some grinded cichlid sticks

five days later i've got my first spawn.. :D

I feed all kinds of stuff. Lots of Tetra stuff. Tetra Cichlid flakes mixed with Tetra Spillurina (sp?) to add veggie matter. Tetra Cichlid Crisps. Tetra Cichlid Sticks sometimes now that they are bigger.

I also feed Hikari Gold Mini floating pellets (it's like crack to them!!!).

I also feed them frozen brine witch is like crack on crack to them.

I throw in Microcrabs in for my Synos. None are shy when that stuff hits the tank.

I'm gonna try some of the NLS soon as well. I like a variety....

NLS ex.lg formula 7.5mm
NLS lg fish formula small pellets
Omega One cichlid flakes
Frozen bloodworms, brine, market shrimp, krill, mysis
Tetra sinking tablets for cats and plecos.
Frozen SW Angel food (veggies and kelp based)

Majority of diet is NLS pellets and frozen mysis

Dainichi Ultima snking & Color Supreme Floating, both small pellets, Sm Pel's cause of large & small Afri's mixed in same tank. http://www.dainichi.com/cichlid_food.html
NLS Lg. Sinking Form
Omega Cich Flakes & Veggie Spiru Flakes http://www.omegasea.net/products.html
Nutrafin Spiru Flakes
San Francisco Brand Frozen Shrimp & Spirulina Enhanced Brine Shrimp
Also occasionally a very small bit of Frozen Peas, Squash & lettuce

Also for what it's worth I feed 3-4 days on 2-3 off. Once every 2-3 mnth's no food for 5-7 day's, keep's their gut's good & clean.

Tried Hikari Cich Bio-Gold Med Pel's, but I didn't soften it b4 feeding & the small fish suffered bloat from eating to much & it not digesting well, large fish were ok w/ it though.

All of the Dainichi I've used is really amazing stuff AND YOU DO NOT, per instructions, soak proir to feeding.

When I kept africans I fed sinking Hikari Bio-gold, FD blood worms, algae wafers, cucumber slices, and sometimes small white cloud minnows.

I feed my cichlids hikari excel, omega one african flakes, nls all purpose formula, nls cichlid formula, nls grow, variety of flakes, and frozen food.
Also, do you guys know where to get dainichi without having to order from the site? I'd love to try it.
