colorado!
sorry if this is the wrong section....

i had a 55 gallon and the temp never changed on me , allways within a degree or 2 of 78*

but now ive set up a monster, and it was around 80* so i turned both heaters off, came to low 70* so i took them out adjusted, left the small heater on and it sits between 74* and 78.9* depending on whats going on in my room (heat blowing? warm day out? sun on my window? fan on? lids to the tank open? etc)

anyhow, im curious as to what fish people own out here!

ive wanted a gar for as long as ive been in the hobby , as well as a redtail cuda, snake head, etc

from what ive found the gar is super hardy and can handle tons of varried conditions...

im trying to figure out what fish would be best and if their is an order follow when buying?

for instance, i want peacock bass, what if they were 4 inches, but i just bought a 10" gar what if i should have bought the pbass before the gar? ( i know this isnt a good example but see what im saying?)

mainly looking for hardy fish with fairly wide living conditions

(im trying to stable my tank, but just incase)

any segjestions as to what fish to get? or look into? ive debated having only gar, or gar and cuda and pbass, idk im confused!

and so i dont waste a thread here is a teaser, first pic is my old 55gal, others are my 30gal pics of the 135 soon

Please do alot of research if your going with any large fish. and don't even try to get a snakehead.
Ask pwmin about p bass if you want to go that way

exactly how im feeling^^^

i would love to get some cuda's i talked with aqua imports, they were supposed to call me when they get some in

as much as i love the gar i think i would only get one, not sure if even one will fit in my tank for who knows how long

gar aren't exactly that easy. They are very hard to find appropriate tankmates for. They are bad with silver fish, aggressive fish and aggressive eaters. They can sometimes work with cichlids, but it's usually not a good idea. If you want p-bass, be prepared to get a larger tank. The 135 will work for a long time (a couple years, maybe) and may even work for life on kelberi or intermedia (which are about impossible to find), but won't be ideal. P-bass also like higher temperatures (I usually keep mine at 86). Snakeheads are illegal and hard to find, anyway. A large group of 'cudas would be awesome.

btw, if you need more driftwood, I didn't end up selling the other pieces I had for sale. They're posting in my "70 gal..." thread.

thanks paul!

arn't cuda's harder to take care of then gar?

how big of a gar could i have in my tank???

no prob.

probably a little, but I've never had any. I'd love to get 5 or 6 from snookn. They're a nice size. I haven't seen any that size even and even smaller ones go for what they want.

I wouldn't go over 18 inches. There aren't any gar that stay under 24" in aquariums and they grow very fast their first growing season, but it'll take at least a couple years to get two feet.

TFD might still have some red tail cuda's for 12.50 each. there tiny though

TFD? the fish den?? sorry

if they do that would be sick! thats a awesome price!

thanks again paul huge help! if i got a gar i would want to start it small, i think aqua imports are too big and would out grow some what fast

for starters the fish your looking at will destroy the design of the tank and secondly they are just way to big for a 55 gallon
