Hi All,

I am new to the forum.
I recently purchased this fish from my local store and I am not quite sure what species of Cichlid it is. I am confident it is American and not African. If anyone can help identify this fish It would be greatly appreciated. He was very beat up when I found him in with much larger American Cichlids. Thought I would rescue him. Let me know if anyone can tell me what he is.20170514_104124.jpg 20170514_104130.jpg 20170514_104135.jpg 20170514_104139.jpg

I don't think it is festae, could be robertsoni.

Cribroheros robertsoni. A little washed out and stressed. They get around 8-10" full grown. Very peaceful cichlid. They do not do well with aggressive cichlids. Robertsoni are earth eater CA cichlids. GTs and caprintis might be ok, but watch them because they are much more aggressive cichlids.

Thanks for the response guys. I think Robham777 and cichlidfish may be right. He is currently in a large 5 ft tank with some smaller american cichlids. So far they haven't given him any trouble so I will seem how he heals and colours up in a few weeks.

He'll color up nicely once he settles in. They are great fish. I have 3 right now, and can't imagine my life without robertsoni lol.

I believe in the wild they are much like thorichthys and hang in loose groups.Pairs do break off from the rest of the group to spawn. Seems to be the way with most social cichlids.
