What fish? Possibly Ptychochromis

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had someone give me a ton of fish from a 120 and he called this one a "Northeastern Gold". He's behind the driftwood. Any ideas? Thanks!

Name is a misnomer, this fish is Ptychochromis grandidieri, named after Alfred Grandidier, which does not exist in northern Madagascar. It goes by the common name "East coast gold" and by Saroy in Madagascar.

I don't think that's what it is. I have a pytchochromis grandidieri and it does not look anything like that fish.

I lightened up your picture a bit. It is a grandidieri 'East Coast Gold' .

Ohh I thought he was talking about that little convict-looking guy. Didn't even see the ptychochromis there.

I just bought a juvenile grandidieri. Are they peaceful to tankmates?

In my experience, they do some chasing about but short term and nothing serious. To me they're like playful puppies, kind of goofy and rambunctious.
