What fish SA bad ass or really colorful?

Hello,
I need a new fish to replace my bowfin haha. Something bad ass or really really cool and colorful. I would like to do a SA bitope or South Indian biotope in the future. Right now i have dats, chaca chaca, red wolf fish and plecos and some spiny eels in my 55g. So the fish has to be either a really slow grower, or max size between 8-10". Any ideas?

i dont think you need anymore fish in that tank...

meh, i need a couple more fish. but also, not a big fan of cichlids except pikes or geos, but geos are kind pricey at my lfs

oh, and one more thing. its a planted tank that is left uncovered, so no jumpers please . . . otherwise i would get an ornate poly, but they are escape artist.

I'm a bit confused. Bowfin are dull and live colder water, but now you are wanting something colorful and warmer/tropical right?

kinda, i dont really want cichlids or just color, id like something kinda monster, like my erythrinus erythrinus. good size, moves alot, monster. im just saying, color is a plus.
