Hi Everyone,

I have a 125 gallon tank, two overflows and plenty of filtration.

Whats in the tank:

1 Oscar he is six yrs old and about 12 inches long
1 Red Tail about 14 inches long
1 gray cat fish about 8 inches long

I am not a fan of plecos and do not want to add another cat or oscar.

Since my tank looks very empty with just these three sharing it I figure its time to starting adding some more fish.

So what should I add and how many?

Thank you!
Fletcher

I would get rid of the red tail cat and idk what a gray cat is so idk bout that. But your red tail is gunna get 4 feet long and gunna get way to big for your tank. But if you were to do that then I would add like a pike and maybe a FH.

:iagree: about eventually getting rid of the redtail cat and possibly the other depending on what species. however, I wouldn't add any more cichlids without some very carefull planning. once cichlids reach maturity and even moreso at adulthood it can be very difficult if not impossible to add new territorial fish to the tank. your oscar has already gotten the mindset that that tank is his and no other territorial fish should be in there. imo you'll have the best success adding a large school of some type of active fish like a larger rainbow species, silver dollars or giant danios. the problem will be finding some that will already be too large for the oscar to eat. for something different you might be able to get by with a trio of bala sharks or tinfoil barbs. clown loaches would probably also work but again you'd run into the problem of having to find some that will be too large for the oscar to eat.

if you want to add new cichlids to the tank or fish that are small enough for him to eat, then the best way to try would be by removing the oscar from the tank for a few days while adding the new fish. don't do this if you're going to add another cichlid of comparable size though, only if the new cichlids are much, much smaller. also you'd need to rearrange the decorations in the tank so that once you put the oscar back in it will seem like a whole new environment and with some luck he won't bother the fish already established in there.

:)

Some clown loaches would be a good addition, I like the Silver dollars too.

I agree with that but the problem with the oscar is hes so big it would be hard for you to find any silver dollars he wont munch on.. my 6" red oscar ate my smallest silver last night and hes not eating his pellits so i have a feeling hes gona own my outher 3 :(
