I have a spare tall 20 gallon laying around and I was thinking of getting a nice breeding pair of something to put in there. I would like to breed a pair of marbled cons if I could find some but I'm not sure if its too small. I was also thinking of a pair of angels. I would love some more ideas :)

Cons, angels, rams...if it doesn't have to be CA/SA red jewels or kribs would breed in there too.

I'm not interested in breeding livebearers lol, just cichlids :)

I wish I could breed rams but my water is too hard and I have never had luck with them. If you think that the tank is big enough for cons they might be my first choice. Red jewels are so pretty but I don't think I would ever be able to get rid of the fry. If kribs would breed in my water I would be interested in trying to breed them as well. Thanks for the ideas :)

Cons, Kribs, auratus, brichardi, mannny mannny types. Alot of the lake Tang shell dwellers would be fine in a 20H imo. few other species as well. majority of fish that stay under the 6" range for cichlids would all be fine. I'de start w/ a group of juvies and let 'em pair off 'n get rid of the extras. a group of 5 juvies should be fine in a 20h until you get a deffinate pair. personally I'de stay away from Angels. You'de be talking alot of extra work. seperateing the eggs, fry tank ect.. majority of other cichlids make exellent parents. If your looking to do it for fun or food? also depends on suggetsions.

Thanks for the suggestions :) I am wanting to sell the fry to other hobbiests in my area, so I don't want to breed anything too common. I agree about the angels being a lot of extra work. I tried it once before in a community setting and was never sucessful. What other fish would you suggest?

Most of the cryptoheros/archcentrus type fish would work. Angelfish in my opinion get way to large for a 20g. Marble cons are a neat little fish and would do fine if that is what you like.
