hey everyone, just recently joined the forum. i'm looking into getting some awsome monster fish that would grow along side my Alligator Snapping turtles. incase some don't know what they are, they grow to about 31 (carapace length) inches and weight 150-200lbs (rough estimate) so i'll need fish that are fairly large so they won't get eaten. currently i have a 75 gal tank, 78 degree F, river rock substrate, and a Fluval FX5 (for some good filtration haha). one of my snappers in 2.5 inches and the other is 1.5. here's a pic of the tank (new overhead set up is in the works, making my own stable and secure lid if i decide to get a arowana).

let me know if i need to provide anymore info or if i need to change anything around. i'd prefer to not get cichlids unless they're nice and colorful. predatory fish are okay too. anything that'll grow big and won't get chomped haha.

The snapping turtles will eat most of the fish, not to mention they will outgrow that setup in no-time.

Also I would remove the bamboo if I were you. They're not an aquatic plant.

Otherwise, the tank looks pretty nice. Not sure I like the coral background though.

What all is in there? I see a bala shark, not sure what the rest is. Looks like tetras or something.

yes i've realized this but i'm planning on getting bigger fish so that it won't eat it. i've had a bala shark in the tank that's bigger than it and they're left it alone. i'm deffinately prepared for a new setup. i have a separate fund that i plan to dedicate towards this. i'm planning on getting a 200+ tank or going straight to an indoor pond. i also know that the lucky bamboo aren't aquatic, but they'll live on for a little while. once they decay/rot/die i'll simply remove them.

edit: yea the background is very corny haha, i just bought the tank and left it on. i'm planning on making a pretty cool background myself, nothing aquatic looking, possible a big OBEY poster if anyone is familiar with that organization. yes, i have a bala shark, tetras, feeder rosey reds and guppies, ghost shring, pictus catfish, and a few other catfish. any fish i've put in the tank so far i know will either get attacked or eaten so it's all good. that's why i'm hoping to get bigger fish so they can hold their own. for the past couple months, i've noticed that my turtles only attack fish about half their size so anything equal or larger, they'll ignore

I've kept allies with large goldfish successfully, but be aware that turtles will sometimes attack fish that are much too large for them to swallow. You just have to accept that any fish you place in the tank may be killed.

That said, active alert fish that stay up in the water column are safest. Giant danios, killies, or large tetras might work. I think one member here keeps convicts with his snapper. Be sure to avoid puffers and spiny fish such as cories or plecos that could hurt the turtle if he attacks them.

The lucky bamboo will be fine emersed, as you have it. Just trim it when it gets too tall.

Yup, Everything I put in I expect to get eaten, hurt, or killed and I have the bamboo leaves just above water to survive too. Anyone have any reccomendations for any other big fish? I'm thinking of an arowana but still deciding right now on what to get.

Sorry, new to the forum, what's LFS? Pacus seem pretty cool, I'll definately look into. I suppose I'll get arowanas in the future once I can house a really big one.

Anything besides a pacu? I suppose I'll get some cichlids if I can find some nice colorful ones. I currently have a tiger oscar that is pretty cool. I might consider another. I like the black with orange lines.

Edit: nvm I think I know what lfs is, live fish store probably haha. I'll probably be going to That Fish Place this weekend to see what they have
