Just yesterday, my LFS got in a couple Jewel Pike, and I noticed one that is about the size of my pbass. I've wanted a pike for a good while now, so I asked the store owner how the pike would do in my aquarium with my pbass and lima shovelnose. He immediately said that pike are SOB's, which I already knew

That aside, he said it would probably be fine, but he doesn't wanna be held responsible if the pike does anything to my pbass. Hearing that, I was very hesitant to buy it and ultimately did not. My question is to you all, what fish get along with pike decently well? Well, better question. What fish won't put up with the pike's crap? Would really like one of these guys, but don't wanna put him in a tank where he'll dominate it.

Each pike has it's own personality, I have known a few guys that kept bass and pikes together, the biggest thing is the size, if the bass can get the pike in it's mouth, don't bother, and goes the same for the pike. Give the pike a "hide" under a rock or driftwood and it should be all fine. As always, there are exceptions to the rules, so, it is obviously "at your own risk"

My experience with my Pike is that if it thinks it can fit something in its mouth it will eat it and it can usually fit more than you think. It doesn't really swim around beating up any of the fish but if it catches a smaller fish off guard it will eat it.

Does your store have more than one pike?

I got my Saxatilis pike at a local store last year as a "Jeweled Pike" and I've been looking for a female ever since. I've never been to pet stores around Lake Mary, but I might make an exception if I can find a nice sized female.

In reading the current posts, I would like to know what you think about putting an Odoe pike in with a moderately aggressive green pike cichlid in a 55 gallon with lots of vegetation and hiding spots. Keep in mind that this is a temporary home. both fish are around 5.5 inches, but the Odoe Pike is a bit thinner in girth. Water quality and filtration are all up to or beyond par.

Thanks
Beau
