I have a 29 gallon saltwater tank wih a small skimmer and a Rena XP1 canister filter! 30 lbs of live rock one cleaner shrimp 5 hermit crabbs (two orang and blue two black and white one red) and 9 snails!
a coral beauty yellow tang diamond goby two maroon clowns!
therens does good for biologicl filter but the nitrates are off the charts!!
what filter should I purchase for mechanicl filtration?????????????ammonia is 0
nitrites 0
ph 8.2
nitrate 20-30

Mechanical filtration Wont do anything for Nitrates. You need to do water changes. And make sure u clean out the skimmer cup often.

Exactly what I would have advised. Frequent partial water changes keep these in check, as well as regular maintenance of the tank in general (cleaning out filtering units, turning over the substrate bed, keeping the glass clean of acumulating algae, and siphoning detritus material from rocks and substrate).

You keep all this in a 30 gal tank??? This is the reason why your nitrates are off the charts my friend. The yellow tang should not be in there simply because of the tank size..I even shudder to see one of these in a 46 gal tank, never mind a 29..

Sorry i have not sugar coated my response, but i believe in being up front in what i say..So, in my opinion, get rid of the yellow tang for the good of the fish and for the good of your tanks parameters....

Thanks
