In search of Leiarius
Iam hoping its the ones i see all the time at petsmart and petco that are ivory, black, blue and so on.

Those are Pomacea diffusa. Unfortunately, these ones will remain golfball size only. Anything larger than them is illegal to ship to your state so the only way for you to obtain them is by getting them within your state. Pomacea canaliculata, P. haustrum and P. insularum grow larger than a golfball.

Apple snails get larger than a golf ball, I believe... I'm just giving you the common name b/c I don't know all the scientific ones like Lupin, lol.

definely- would have say the biggest one I have gotten out of a creek in florida was the size of grapefruit. but personally wouldn't advise on keeping those - legalities speaking.

well for 4 dollars at the lfs, there is a snail that is
this wide l---------------------l
yellow with shell deteriation and has a greyish body with tiny brownish specks. has the trapdoor and its shell shape is similar to the ones available at petco. was traded in or donated to them.

would this be one of the legal species to ship into cali or is it the illegal unless already there snail?

the snail at the lfs weighed about 6 oz.

Even if it is one of those illegal species, you are in a perfectly legal position to obtain it since it is within your state. Buy it and get some pics so we could identifiy it. Canas have often been mistaken for diffusas and can be sold that way. The shell color is not accurate. We would need to look at the spire and mantle angles aside from the color of eggs laid and behavioral patterns.

At its age would the crevices and craters in the shell heal over?

Its shell is so damaged i think it would be quite hard to id based on shell.

None of the craters and crevices reach the snails body.

Even its trapdoor is speckled with craters and so ragged it doesn't give the snail a snug fit.

Yah the shell color is pale yellow.

Snail looks like the poor thing lived in an acid bath.

looked at applesnail.net and saw the degees each species has of shoulder so ill see if i can id it this way tomorrow if it is the legal to trade in ill just get a younger one, if it is the ones that can't be shipped into cali ill get it and see if the shell erosion can be reversed.
