Once grown the gar will go in a 150 long tank. I would like to uprgrade to a 180-2++ in like 2 years. Is there a gar i could keep for 2 years in a 150?

You would be fine with a Florida gar for that long provided that you grow it out from a small YOY gar to start in a smaller aquarium at the start of the two years. If this is to be your first gar, then a Florida gar is definitely your best bet anyway.

it will be my first gar. I will start him in a 46 gallon bowfront or may setup one of my empty 10 gallons depending on the size o find

I have a 150 up for the top tier of my gar grow out tanks before moving to the 500g. I've kept Floridas in it for a couple years, but even that can be stretching it. I'd say your plan sounds good for FL gar, just make sure you don't abandon your plans of the 180-200g.

You planning on keeping this gar in the same tank with the silver arowana?

Ive seen it done but i know the silver aros can be aggressive which you dont want when keeping a gar. So i will see how it goes and if it doesnt work out i will decide on which fish i want more and sell the other. Right now Im saving about $50 a paycheck for the 180 or up tank i wanna buy

lets see, florida, spotted, shorty(but not for beginners)... LNG np, trop id say no, gator hell no, cuban no.

My oldest florida will be 3 in a few months and he still does fine in my 125g
