I have an electric eel that is abour 4 feet long, and I have had him for a couple years. Right now, I usually feed him big fancy goldfish, but is there some other live fish I can feed him? I need to make sure they are pretty big though, because he is a big eel. thanks:popcorn:

Sure, why not other fish?
I had a baby, and he only ate live fish. Nothing else.

I wonder, what does he do with prey that cannot easily be swallowed? He doesn't rip/chew does he?

cichlid fry crayfish seen to be a treat for them

Oh, thanks oddball. I should try crayfish. And I don't give him fish that he can't swallow. I usually give him fish about 6 inches santoury, so he usually bites them and just eats them whole easily.

What happens when an elec eel goes after a fish that cannot be swallowed? I have heard it just leaves the dead fish there (after shocking it) True?

Like I said, it usually can eat the fish with a few gulps or bites. He usually doesn't shock the fish, but he has done it. He usualy just trys to eat them.

Well over 6 feet, mine is less than 5, though. I hope I can get a digital camera soon, upload some pics. That would be nice. I had a friend who knew somebody who wanted to rid of their eel. I got mine when it was a couple feet long. He has never shocked me; since he was young, I realised I should tame him. He has never shocked me but Im still careful when cleaning the tank.

Yeah man, I hope you can post some pics soon too! I'd never put my hand in a tank with an e eel.
