So I'm going to try something. I currently have 1 piranha with about 50 guppies in a fish tank. Do you think the acquarium can become self reliant? Apart from feeding the guppies do you think the rate the guppies multiply will cancel out by the rate the piranhas eats them?

Feel free to call me stupid but first tell what guppy to piranha ratio would work.

Ive never had a piranha but i'm guessing hes just gunna gorge himself, i don't reckon fry would have time to grow! But thats based on nothin is just what i think might happen. Prob shouldn't have posted. sorry.

they will live and you will keep losing the bigger (female ) guppies faster then the others, the piranha will live off the guppies as an additional food, but it wont work if you dont feed him regularly,an adult red would probably need more than 50 a day if he were to live solely on guppies

sorry man, but it won't. you'll be out of guppies in a few weeks, if not days.

:ROFL: ha ha you apologised for posting the post on the same post !! i like :)

the guppys wont last and even if they did they would not provide all the nutrition that a piranha needs to grow big and healthy!
feeders should be a substitute to a decent diet of beefheart and various pellets etc etc !!
pop your guppys in a seperate tank and just breed them for feeders but only pop a few in every now and then !! at least you can select the fish that you are going to feed and you know that they are healthy !!
