I am getting a 46 bow front planted tank running on an ac110, the stocking so far is a 3 oblongums, but will shrink down to a pair, i am also thinking about two kribs, but i would really like to add a few gymnos because i know they need a cool down period too, i was thinking 3 blue neon valentines since i already have one, and what other gymnos? your opinion, what is the most colorful gymno out there? i don't like the ones that have the super flat face.
So the stocking in the long run would be:
pair of oblongums
2 kribs
3 valentines
2 types of schooling tetras
then another gymno group

Would more gymnos work or no? if so which ones?

i think it could work if their is many distinctive territories.

in a planted tank it should be more doable.

i would add a second ac 110.

and i would probably do a group of australis.

they are colorful and dont get that big of a head.

but if it was me, i would just keep like 6-8 gymno. blue neons.

ya, i thought about that just the valentines, but its going to be my girlfriends tank and she like a bunch of different colors. also i could throw a ac50 on in the future but i do twice a week water changes of about 40%, so its not to bad.

What temp should i do the cool down at?

Could i do that stocking and add 3 nortes? Where is the best place to get them?

Do all nortes look like this:

I had a pair of Nortes (the male died earlier this year), and I did not find them to be quite as colorful as that picture, but they are colorful and pretty fish . . . very peaceful and well-behaved, too

that being said, I also have four Blue Neons, and IME they are much more colorful, particularly the males . . . I also think their color patterns are nicer than the Nortes

well, my remaining Norte is currently schooling with my Blue Neons . . . they really are very similar, it may be just a matter of taste

you've probably already seen this site - - http://cichlaholic.com/uruguay_list.html - - but if not, I'd go here to get some ideas

skip the krib and add the red ceibal from your 125g. the krib are west african and won't do well with a cool down period. as for tetras, us lemon tetras or blood fin tetras, they come from similar climate. as for the valentines and norte, id get one or the other. they could interbreed making hybrids. choose a group of 1m/3f from Gymnogenys group and the same from the Rhabdotus group

WOw thanks for the info, so i get two groups of gymno but from different place, right?

I wondered about the kribs with the cool down period.
so i should or could do this:
6 lemon tetras
6 bloodfin tetras
pair oblongums
4 gymnogeny group(still looking)
4 blue neons

What is the difference between the two groups?
Could i do higher number of tetras?

You might get away with that stocking in a 75g but not in a 46g 36" tank.

Go with the Oblongum pair and one group of gymnos plus the tetras.
