What Happened to this Dat?

This Dat has been kinda sick for the past 2 days, now he had a bloody mouth. Or what looks like it to me. What do you guys think happened? Injury? Parasite? Something else? How should I treat him?

I've put him in the hospital tank with the local resident, but sectioned him off so he's alone.

whats he been eating? looks like he got a rock or sumthin caught in his mouth or scratched himself, but i dunno. Good luck with him.

Maybe from tryin to eat a snail?

he's bee neating market shrimp, shell less, no tail shrimp barbs

what were his other tank mates?

ever throw frozen food into the tank?

Is there a jagged edge on the egg crate where it could have rubbed against? It looks like a physical injury as opposed to a parasitic infestation

only other fish in there with him were other dats his own size. No food went into the tank frozen. I would thaw it out first in warm water.

The egg crate was not in the tank where this happened.

Fish frequently injure thier mouths, sometimes by just running into the glass, if this is that type of injury it should heal rapidly on it's own.

Update: This Dat died today.

Treatment: Isolated him, treated with Melafix for 3 days, then did a 20% water change. Then on day 4 the Dat died.

Physical signs: At first had blood read streaks around gills, then on day 2 more red behind gill covers. Then day 3 redness started to disapear, and the fish started swiming in the water flow at the surface, but seemed ok. Then day 4 death, stayed at the bottom on side gasping.

I cut the fish open: No swelling on the gills, or stomach GI track. No blood in GI track, no real signs of anything abnormal, atleast to this untrained eye.

Ideas?
