possible fine, they'll take the fish. keep ur mouf shut n you wont get caught lol. no need to brag to everyone in the world u have piranhas, no need to go tellin everyone at the grocery store or every lfs that you actually have them. just own them, and be on with it... i can promise you probably over 40% of piranha owners are not supposed to have them (me being included)
I'll see if I can find the case again. There was someone in either CA or FL that was indicted for keeping Ps (ex-girlfriend notified DNR). He received a fine and was banned from keeping any fish for 5 or 10 years. He was obviously a punishment example for the media.
As said, if you stay hushed over the matter, you will not need to worry about ‘what if I get caught’. As well as not boasting in your local grocery store, try not to get tempted to drop the neighbours’ cats in the tank. Suspicion will fall on you and your big smile while you throw out some rather unusual ‘chicken bones’.

But seriously just don't go bragging about it and you will probably be OK. Snakeheads are illegal in my province but people still pick them up from Quebec. I have never heard of anyone getting in trouble for it.

Another way to get caught is if, lets say you own a stingray and it were to spear you and you have to go to the hospitol. You need to tell the doctor what happened so they can properly treat you, so wear leather when you pet him.
To get out of that one you could 'knock two cans with one stone'. If a piranha bites you and removes a nice chunk out of your hand: When you have to explain yourself to the doctor, tell them the neighbours' cat did it. That way your piranhas do not get removed, but the freaking cat does.
i dont think anyone on here is going to narc on u anyways man so post here all u want. the fact that its illegal is absolute stupidity anyways. Just say thanks to the movies man for that miss fortune.
if i got stung by my stingray (which is a fw stingray and i live in cali) i would just say i was fishing and got stung by a salt water stingray..... or i can say i own a saltwater ray because my lfs sells them. i dont really care for saying what i have on the board. you can read my sig if you get confused
