My own experience is the same as the general notion that EBJDs are quite mellow. Just wondering how variable individual fish are....

So - have yours killed anything, and if so, what fish and how big were your EBJDs at the time?

My EBJD bit off several Baby Flowerhorn frys's head... he couldn't eat the body.. or he didnt want to.. not sure.. but he def bit a few Flowerhorn frys head off... somewhat cool.. but sad for the fry..

Mine killed a 22" dovii... It got stuck in his throat...
What are you trying to get out of this info?

Sorry to hear that. :(

Just trying to figure out what I can mix them with in the future - if they should go into the peaceful SA tank (my preference) or the semi-aggressive CA tank. I apologoze if I phrased the question in an insensitive way...

Mine are very well behaved. I keep them in a mostly SA peaceful community. Geophagus altifrons, geophagus 'red head', a. heckelii and they all get along great. The only problem that I ever have is that my fish all run away when I come up to the aquarium and sometimes run into things and injure themselves.

My Blue x Blue pair are currently with a large group of Geo Red Heads and all get along great...

I've had young Blues kill each other in grow out tanks... I've had young adult Blues kill/eat female Apistos... I've had a Blue male kill two young Blue Gene females during prespawning... I've had Blues of various sizes kill Tetras... I've had young Blues eat a large variety of Cichlid fry...

I've seen a few of my young adult to adult Blues defend themselves and/or their territory quite well, yet I've never had a Blue grow up to be "aggressive"...

I've seen pics of your tank and it looks amazing. I guess the problem with peaceful fish is that they are often shy ;). My balzaniis do the same thing...

Thanks man! I guess the lesson is that they can be "aggressive" against each other, and that they shouldn't be kept with small fish? I have 7 tiny ones I'm growing out in a 20g - will keep a close eye on interspecific aggression.

Ya.. my 2" killed .5" frys.. i just did it cuz i was cleaning up his tank.. and had no place for him while i was cleaning....

EBJD can be aggressive tho.. My same 2" tried to defind himself against a 4" afrian arowana.. and was pretty good at it too..
