looking to set up a 29 gallon reef i have a old heater that keeps the temps at 77 low 79 high in the tank, the tank is in my cold Canadian basement and the temp will surly rise as the weather outside gets warmer, i was thinking of getting a 250 watt ehime heater, is that overkill or would it work for me?

so a 100 watt heater would be good for me?

I use 1W per gal or slightly higher with excellent results... anything more is not only a waste of electricity but a risk to your tank...

The more a heater turns itself on/off... the shorter the lifespan of the on'off element will be... thus increasing the liklihood of the heater getting stuck on and frying your fish...

After reading countless posts about people using way to much heater I am convinced this is the most common cause of heater failure...

Whoops...

1 Watt Per Gal is a typo... I meant to say 2 Watt Per Gal... and it won't allow me to edit...

Sorry for the mistake...
