Hey guys I would like to have a tank with these fish:oscar, bichir, shovelnose or redtail, gar of sometype, and an arowana. Thoughts on this setup. All starting from babys in a 135 long. If this is possible at the beginning I will seperate as they age. ALright guys light me up thanks.

Oh and if it is possible remotely what species??

Forget the RTC, for starters. As long as you have a bigger (wider) tank for the aro down the road, it really shouldn't be a big deal. The gar may be a problem size-wise when it reaches it's max too, though.

For bichir species, you should stick with upper jaws. There is a very informative sticky in the Polypterus sub-forum that will give you some ideas of potential sizes and needs of the fish.

Great info, Ive had a few redtails over the years and they always end of in a showtank at the LFS, they just grow so fast. Temperment wise I thought everything should be good. I def would like to have the shovelnose though never had one before.

a lima shovel nose might work, but a tiger shovel nose will get too big

yes, forget the shovelnose and redtail. u could probably get all the others in something 240+ depending on what kind of gar. 300 would be sweet with that stock.

Gar + oscar is a bad combo also, otherwise you could do something like oscar, aro, lima, bichir and it would be good for a year or so (after that the aro will outrgow your tank). Bear in mind the lima is a slow grower and the others grow fast.

+1 and get large tank 300 gallons

Well the longterm plan is to build a 400 plywood, but inthe mean time I would like for the little guys to get aquinted and grow together in the 135. Ive always noticed havn been inthe hobby for quite sometime that if you take an aggresive fsh at a young age and keep him with the same tank mates very rarely will he attack another species, unless introduced later at a smaller size then its dinner time.
