hi guys! im a bit confused 'bout those flowerhorns that fades... honestly, i havent seen yet such a kind... y do they fade? any pics?

There are plenty of reasons why a fish would fade. Stress is one of the top reasons why a fish fades. This is a result of constant harassments, poor water quality and poor health conditions. Some fish fade when they become inactive during the day or night depending on the species. This is not something to be alarmed of as they naturally do that however if your fish fades unusually, then you should start looking into the possible health issues that may arise in your fish.

No no. Fade is another word for "peeling" some types of FH's produce drab fish...In some cases, a drab fish, can "peel" or "fade" into something like, bright orange, or reds. JK's are a good example. They shed the drab dull colors, and burst into a new orange'ish/and pink "skin". Peeling is a good thing.

Next time, please post your offtopic questions in proper forums and separate thread. This should go in Comments section. I will answer this but further queries should be done in PMs or a separate thread in appropriate forums.

The attachment system has been closed down pending server upgrade tomorrow. Closure is only temporarily.

:welcome: to MFK by the way!

Just want to add a little to help out.
JK= Jin Kang, which is I believe chinese. It is used as a name to describe any flowerhorn that "fades" or "peels" from a dark coloration into red, pink, white, yellow, orange. For flowerhorn this is perfectly natural and sometimes quite saught after. The fading process comes from the genetics passed on from the Midas cichlid or Amphilophus Citrinellus. When Midas are young they are usually a brownish coloration or barred. As they mature the majority of them will "fade" into a bright orange or orange and white fish. Since Midas are a part of the creation of nearly all flowerhorn, it becomes more common for a flowerhorn to fade. Also blood parrots and king kong parrots or KKP are also like this because they are a cross between a Midas and a Synspila. A good example of another fading hybrid would be the SRT or Super Red Texas. SRT are line bred from Green Texas cihlids (Carpintis) and blood parrots. These eventually breed an amazingly bright orange fish, due to the genetics from the midas genes in the BP.

Hope this has helped.
