As the title states. The name gets thrown around a lot and I have never heard of one. I looked on CRC, but I don't see any reference to a location? Is "gorillus" simply another made up name for somebodies "strain"? Google simply brings up MFK threads, none of which are informative.

Brought into the hobby by UmbeeKing. He also brought the blue version.

"Here is my April 2010 Umbriferum Collecting trip. On this trip I ventured into the beautiful jungles of Colombia in search for Caquetaia Umbriferum. On this trip I encounterd for the first time the BLACK UMBEE A.K.A. Caquetaia Sp. Gorillus Black. "

I'm still confused.

Is UmbeeKing just a hobbyist and is Caquetaia sp "gorillus black" just a name he threw on them? I still can't find any information beyond MFK and youtube videos. Any information on where they were collected? How many were collected? How many were brought back? When bred, did the coloration remain the same?

Seriously?????? Ya must be living under a rock or something ...lol or not from around here. Have you actually tried reading through some of these threads?

No I have not in all honesty. I will go back and start reading, but I wanted some additional information beyond a forum. You know how names get thrown around, I did not want to be chasing somebody's pet name for a certain color fish!

Yeah I am not really active on MFK until recently.

I suggest you send UMBEEKING a pm on here and I'm sure he wouldn't mind answering some questions you have. He is the person who brought them into the hobby and has all the info. What he discloses is another story and is well within his rights to withold info as he pleases. There has easily been 1000 posts on here regarding gorillus so going through the threads is advised.

Btw yes the colors remained the same and were passed on to f1 offspring that have been out and making f2's for some time now. Their namesake "gorillus" comes from their black coloration and beefy profile given to them by UMBEEKING. These are not your average blue umbees that have been in the hobby for so many years.

These are not man made strains of umbees. They naturally occur in the wild. If Umbeeking had not caught them and bred his pair you would not see them in the hobby today. Currently you won't find any gorillus umbee (blue or black) that did not originate from the pairs that he caught from the wild.

Yes, it's a trade name but it's a new location, not a line bred strain so the coloration does breed true. One of the threads Umbeeking posted the location.
