WHAT IS A KOHAKANE SALMON I MAY HAVE SPELLED THAT WRONG BUT THEY SUPPOSEABLY STOCK THEM IN lake arrowhead and bigbear california i was wondering what they are and how to catch them
ITS A NON MIGRATORY FORM OF SOCKEYE SALMON! THEY ARE HALF THE SIZE AND EAT PLANKTON BUT WILL ATTACK A BAIT FISHED ON A SPIN RIG OR EVEN A SPOON! GOOD LUCK FISHNG FOR THEM BUT REMEMBER THERE ARE OPEN/CLOSED SEASONS ON SALMONIDS! AND STRICT SIZE/CREEL LIMITS! BYE!
I have caught most Kokanee by trolling, but any method that will catch trout can catch Kokanee. In fact, I have caught both on the same lure in the same lake.
The lure shown is called a "Kokanee Killer", they really do work well. You put a piece of corn (my father-in-law swears it's got to be Jolly Green Giant) on the forward hook and troll it behind a flasher.
