Channa maruloides is a species of snakehead, and actually related to Gouramis. it is not an "ancient" fish, although similar in body shape to Polyterus. If you want the prehistoric equilvilant, see the Bowfin, Amia calva.
Are they legal in the US..man i want one now! I going to try and look them up and see how big they get.
