Hey all I am new to the forum but I must say everyone so far is very informative and pleasant to speak with. I have several questions regarding on the best filtration system for my specific DIY tank. I plan on having the inside dims of the tank being 96x48x24. I plan on having a built in over flow in the corner ( perhaps on in each corner in the back) and of course drilled. Is there any specific formula to determine the size the overflow should be? I know its off topic of the original question. That being said would a canister filter or perhaps a wet dry sump filter be the way to go? I appreciate your thoughts and opinions, I am fairly unfamiliar with sump systems so any advice on optimizing the setup would be greatly appreciated. I know they both have thier plusses and minus however, i defer to the more experienced MFKs as i value your opinions. Thanks again guys!

Plans for the cost first, also which of the two you want. Actually for me sump is the way to go, but if you've got no back up plans regarding when brownouts/blackouts came in you might have some problem with the overflows.

I figured I could run a small generator if a power outage did occur( I am assuming that is what you meant by brownout/blackout). The cost for the build really isnt an issue. I work in logistics and part of job is builsing international shipping crates. Which really a plywood fish tank is nothing more than a crate with a viewing window. I have tons of left overs for whatt will be the main structure o the stand. The stand will be aprox 40 inches tall. Thatt being said I I think id need something with to large of a head capacity as the sump would be located directly under the display. Let me know your tthoughts on the pros and cons for the said plan. I appreciate your assistance!
