What is causing this??

the fin on my pleco is torn

From what Ive heard sometimes when they get startled, they will tear their sail open, if not that maybe finrot, ph problems, or maybe getting picked on?

i have 2 of these
1 is in good shape sail is still intact
but this one not so much
it hasnt gotten any worse since i got him but at the same time he hasnt gotten any better

I would try adding Melafix or salt to the water

yea because of the ph level in your tank you can do 3 things to fix this:

1-change about 25% of the water

2-add sea salt or

3-there is a cure called stress shield that will help alot

Ive got ah Escondido that when I got it the tail was split like that the guy I got it from said it had been like that for awhile it never healed up though and he seems fine

Looks like an injury. I don't see any infection. Keep the water clean, figure out who's fighting with the pleco, and it wouldn't hurt to add some salt or melafix.
