i dont own an aro, but whenever i jump to this forum to do some reading there is always talk of drop eye. what exactly is drop eye? causes? is it something that only one type of aro gets? (black, blue, jar, silver????)

thanks

as far as i know know one knows the real reason, people say bare bottom tanks can do it, bad water quality, not feeding food that are on surface. many people think its cause by manyy things i would bet its a mix of all of them,
got this of a website
One condition that is often seen in Silver Arowana is called “Drop Eye”, where an eye appears to look downward. It seems this may be the result of over breeding at the breeders though it might also come from fatty tissues behind the eye. Less fat in their diet may help to minimizing or preventing this

You typically see it in silvers but other aro's are not immune to the condition or anything. Some asians have gotten surgery to correct it. I think I found a thread on here a little while back where a member suggested that drop eye might be caused by hitting their heads in home aquaria as well. Unfortunately, like said no one really knows for certain what causes dropeye.

thanks guys!

mine got after jumping and hitting the top like within hours of it happening.

first pic without dropeye, second pic with.

thanks for the pics onion

Sadly, it seems like my 7 inches HBRTG is probably developing a case of DE. Other than corrective surgery for your aro, are there alternatives to reverse?

I heard to keep a blinking light at the top of the aquarium or a floating ping pong ball. Sharing any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ;)

I wouldn't put a ping pong ball at the top of the tank, can see a fish trying to eat it. Perhaps, some kind of floating cork? (I have cork in my tank and the fish love hiding under it and using it for cover)

maye some floating plants like lilys
