What is dropeye?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is believed to be caused fy a fatty deposit behind the upper eye part, that pushes it down. Only way to try to prevent it is to have a system where the fish only looks up.

Does that mean aros with dropeye won't be able to look upwards?
& what kind of system exactly that makes the fish look up except at feeding time?

People use floating bright things to make the aro curious so it looks up. It is very common problem

IMO if you want to prevent DE, keep the silver aro in a tank big enough that it is not likely to smash it's head against the side glass ot top structure when it becomes spooked. I watched one of my silvers develop DE in each eye. The DE in each eye developed on seperate occassions, in both instances it developed within hours of the aro experiencing severe head trauma.
