420 is in my name but I'm not some dumb stoner, its a rarity for me, since my pain perscription conflicts with it. its the medical and industrial applications of the plant that astound me, and the fact our bodies make anandamide (sp?), annd other endo-cannabinoids with a whole system! Like our digestive we have an endo-cannabinoid system, the most recently discovered system in the human body.
As industrial applications go, you can go on for days from biodiesel, to clothing, to food and seasoning out of the seeds. Literally thousands of industrial apps. I have read before it has more uses then any other plant.
And medically, I watched a docu and read up on legit sources (newspapers, TV news clips etc) and a woman survived 20 extra years on top her "expiration date" and as far as I know hasn't passed yet. She has ALS also known as Leu Gehrig's disease. The reason I bring this specific circumstance up is my own father passed from ALS when I was in middle school. No child should have to watch their parent slowly die from the outside in over a period of several years, myself and my sister had to basically babysit him at one point. That's what pisses me off. There are kids out there going through this and I'm sure some of my fellow MFK'ers have been affected by it. Not to mention all the other medical applications from topical anesthetic to menstral relief to killing cancer cells (it was proven by Mechoulam in Israel that the cannabinoids in the whole plant cut off the oxygen supply to the tumor and let it die).
That is also the main reason I'm going into Botany, if after my surgery in fall the prospects of actually getting a job with the degree are good. I would like to either work with it medically or for renewable energy.
(Getting surgery on my rigid flat feet, causing my knees and my back to go out of whack, along with my ankles and feet, can't be on my feet for more then an hour without a fair bit of pain, a while longer its gets to the point I need to sit)
