Well for the past two weeks sitting in my living room I kept hearing something usual where my 125g is sitting at. When I go to see what it is, I see or hear nothing. So just yesterday when I heard it I quickly looked over at the tank and had noticed that one of my cichla was picking up the gravels with his mouth and moving them to one side. He was dropping them on one of the ornaments and that was what I've been hearing. I know that CICHLIDS move gravels around but have any of you guys heard about CICHLAs doing it? It looks like he is clearing space for a nest? Or is he just digging his way out thinking he'll escape?

got any pics or vids.. Could be either of the two, gravel moving or getting ready to lay eggs..

mine orinos did that with sand and were VERY territorial about it. would get all dark if i came to close to the tank to feed them... unfortunately i think my big ocell may have put them back into place :(

yeah like silver dragon said it could be a little bit of both...

I don't have any pics or vid of it but the thing is I have three pieces of slate in the tank for possible spawning but he's moving gravel. Should I place one of the slate in the place that he is digging? And yes he is real territorial about that spot and will chase any others that come close by it.

Does he have a mate over there with him?? Cichla do spawm in pits ;)

So my wifey gets home today and notice tiny white thingys in the pit that the peacock had been digging and guess what....here we go again with eggs!!! There are two of them (The peacock that had been digging and the previous peacock that had laid eggs the last time I posted) are guarding the place and is chasing the rest away. I don't know if the digger is a male or not but I hope it comes thru this time. The digger sort of developed a mini hump on his head. Will post pics when I get them. The digger is probably only 8-9 inches while the other is probably 10-11 inches.
