first off i read that p. reticulatus does not have spines on the tail like p. motoro. is this always true?

with that being said, i went to a friends house who is moving and needs to sell his two rays, he has an adult motoro and a ray he says is a p. reticulatus.

its disc diameter is about 12 inches it is totally brown with small black spots on the edge of the disc. he claims he has had it for 5 years, no idea where it came from but he bought it at a wallmart !

i will try to get some pics but will not be able to untill next thursday.

thanks, cooper

Sounds like a Reticulata.. they turn an ugly brown with black speckles around the disc margin when they get older. Pix will provide a better ID..

I remember 'freshwaterstingrays' bought a Motoro from a Wal-mart in Richmond,VA about 4-5 years ago.. so its plausible.

i know wal-mart will sell just about everything, but that is taking things to a new level, heh

yeah derek! many years ago there was a wallmart that had them here in town, its where i got my first one. i have had many rays and have a indoor pond for my rays but,

i suck at idetification.
i thought it to be a retic but my book said retics do not have tail spines but this one most certainly does.

if it is a retic he is out of his mind to ask $250.00.

sounds like a retic to me....
