I am curious what all of the piranha owners are feeding their piranha. What does everybody think about what is the best food for red belly piranha and black piranha? I usually feed mine goldfish, but I usually have them in a holding tank first before I feed them to my piranha. I also feed them krill and large shrimp. Thanks goes out to everybody that responds to this thread.

I usually get whole smelt or whatever is available at my local asian market (cuz they carry whole fish not just the fillets) like perch, butterfish, catfish, bass, etc.

A variety of foods is the best diet. Pellets are probably the best source of nutrition but not all foods contain the same vitamins, not all P's will except pellets either. I feed mine silverslides, talapia fillets, market shrimp, and treats like salmon once evey month or 2. Goldfish are a waste of time and money - they offer very little if any in nutrional value. If had to feed my P's live it would be mollies from Petsmart @$1 a piece as a treat.

pellets, shrimp, talipia fillets are the main course 2-3 times weekly with earthworm, feeder convicts, silverside, crickets mixed in. My local store also sells 20 white clouds or guppies for 3 bucks so i add those in every time before i go out of town. 3 white clouds have lasted for 2 months and survived the addition of 3 other batches of 20. Last batch lasted an hour but the original 3 were still there. Kinda interesting

My small rhom is eating tropical flakes, bloodworm and frozen shrimp.

Talapia fillets and pellets right now mainly. Steak and hamburger whenever I feel like sharing which is less than once a week. Trying to branch them out but I'm either really cheap or food is expensive here. If they ever feel like not being lazy they have around 75 convicts living with them up to an inch long.

I wouldn't feed hamburger!but that's just me.

Oh it is fun. You roll it into mini meat balls and the piranha grab it and rip into them. Pieces go flying everywhere and then the swarms of chiclids and loaches go eat all the crumbs.
