What is the BEST schooling fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
try a shoal of pacu.... cough... nah jk, Clown loaches are sweet

I've got a little 'flock' of Panda Corys, they look great no matter what color substrate is used. I have them in a tall tank, with very colorful male guppies. Had to take them out of a community tank. The Pandas were getting bullied by the larger kinds, like peppered/spotted corys, and my Yo yo loaches. Pandas are very peaceful and active. *Head-n'-tail-light tetras are pretty shoaling fish too. Good Luck trying to decide what you want to stock! Are you planning to have any live plants? Next to tank stock, this is the next 'fun' part of fish keeping that I enjoy!

+1 id say get tiger barbs because you can get different variations to draw the eye. I would get a large shoal of green, albino and normal tiger barbs. They get to a decent size. As for the corys thats a great move always been a favorite for me get all the various types you can to experience all of them and they will shoal despite what others may say. I have mataes, sterbai, green, pepper, albino, schwartz, panda, juli, and skunk all amzing get all the variations. i suggest black sand to display all colors with a good base substrate.

white cloud mountain minnows...Thye look quite similar to neons with a bright stripe down their side AND they are dirt cheap. Ill be getting 100 for 20 bucks soonish. they like the higher top end of the tank which would also allow cories or loaches for the bottom as well.

What about glass cats, I had 6 and they always schooled and had the coolest look of any schooling fish I have ever seen.

You can't beat a see through fish in my books!

I've had these, and they are a great community fish. They are a little bit nervous but are very fun after dark. Try a moon light.

Iv got a 150g tank on it way any am still deciding what to do with it.

Iv always liked schooling fish but have never seen any school properly in tanks (like they do in huge aquariums) and after looking into it, it seems that they are often not kept in large enough groups to show this behaviour.

Now I have a completely empty tank with enough room to get a big group I was wondering what species of fish would be the best for schooling in a large group??

i was thinking of getting some corys so if the other fish would be good tank mates that would be a bonus :D

The best IMO are widebar silver dollars. Everyone who saw my tank would comment on how cool they looked. They are very active and literally always hungry. Plus, they really stand out from your other fish. Mine had nice red hooks and some red on the tail. I had to sell them though because I had too many fish in my tank. But one day I hope to buy some juvies and raise them again. Here's a picture of them. IMG_0374.JPGIMG_0356.JPG

x2 for silver dollars. had a group of 15 red hooks in my old setup. stuck together in a nice schoal all the time.

so i found the reason of my silver aro making a lot of noise at night, down to 7 giant danios lol. as long as he doesnt eat my geos, giant danios are cheap to replace lol

for a peaceful schooling tank with loads of colour - for me nothing beats angelfish+clownloaches+neontetras+hatchetfish :)

After looking through this iv decided im going to go for either a Amazonian biotope (Silver Dollars + Angelfish + Corys + Rummynose tetra)
Or a SE Asain biotope (Clown Loaches + Tiger Barbs or Harlequin rasbora + Glass Catfish + Rainbow Shark + Opline Gourami)

What do you think better and what numbers of each??
