For a SW eel try frozen silversides, formula 1 and any and all other meaty foods. MOst eels will readily take just about anything. Avoid live feeders such as goldfish and rosy minnows. Stick to frozen diets and some freeze dried things. Look for foods he would naturally look for in the wild. Variety is always the best policy. It may be hard to get him to take other things besides the shrimp at first. But I would agree, feeding him just shrimp isn't a great diet. You can also stuff the shrimp with pelleted preperations to help give him a wider range of vitamins/minerals. and pre-soak it in liquid vits as well. I highly reccomend checking out your local seafood department, Tilapia, scallops, and other forms of seafoods should be readily taken. If it looks good enough for you to eat, it should be fine for your eel. Fresh is best, I avoid pre-frozen if possible. But that is almost impossible unless you are near a fresh seafood market.

I would just try to give him a variety just as if they were in the wild there's no drive thru in the ocean you eat what you can
