What is the best way to clean glass tops?

What is the best way to clean glass tops? They have crude cooked on them from the lights. It's freshwater so I don't think vinegar will work, but I'm not sure. The last time I did this I had to use a razor blade and was hoping someone knows of a trick to remove it. Acetone and rubbing alcohol didn't work. I can't remember if I tried vinegar last time.

I use a Steel Scrubbie pad and vinegar.
